Man arrested for reckless driving while intoxicated

A man has been arrested for driving recklessly while intoxicated.
The suspect has been identified as Mohamed Maais, 23, Hulhumale’ Flat No. 4-1-07.
Police said officers patrolling the highway on Thursday night saw a car being driven recklessly at high speed on Hulhumae’ highway. The car did not have its headlights on but did have four signal lights on, added the Police.
When instructed by police officers to slow down, the driver ignored the order and sped off. As a result, the Police conducted patrols across various areas of Hulhumalé in search of the vehicle.
The vehicle was later seen heading toward Tree Top Hospital on Haivarakaru Magu in Hulhumalé Phase II. Despite approaching speed breakers, the driver did not slow down. Police were eventually able to stop the car near Flat Number 97 on Rabarugas Magu.
Police noted that the driver made another attempt to flee as officers approached the vehicle. However, the officers successfully managed to bring the situation under control.
The driver was arrested and subsequently remanded in custody by the Criminal Court for three days.
According to the Police, the car was missing its right rear tire when it was finally stopped. The missing tire was later found near Flat Number 103. There were other damages to the vehicles as well.
Police have towed the car and are investigating the incident.
The authority reminded the public that reckless driving is a criminal offense that could endanger lives and result in huge legal ramifications.
