Eydhafushi police begin collecting info of minors out on roads after 10pm

B. Eydhafushi police have begun collecting information of minors who are seen outside on the roads without parents or guardians after 22:00hrs.
Maldives Police Service said they began the efforts on Sunday, April 21st, in association with relevant authorities to ensure a safer community and to protect minors from committing offences.
Law enforcement will be gathering information of minors found out on roads after 22:00hrs, and will continue collaborating with other authorities to rehabilitate and reintegrate juvenile offenders back to their communities.
Eydhafushi island council’s deputy Ali Shafeeq, while speaking with Sun Online said that local authorities had discovered students out on roads late at night, often committing indecent acts.
Shafeeq said the efforts aimed at stopping minors from going out without parents or guardians after 22:00hrs in accordance with the Children’s Rights Act.
“The main objective is to restrain minors being exposed to crimes since this is enhanced when they venture out during after hours,” Shafeeq commented.
Parents of such minors would be summoned for questioning by authorities.
