Presidential Address 2025: RTL ferry service to launch across all atolls by year-end

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry services will commence operations across all atolls by the end of this year.
The President made these remarks during his Presidential Address at the first sitting of the first session of the People's Majlis for 2025.
In his address, the President emphasised that inter-island transport has become a fundamental necessity due to the Maldives' unique geographical formation. He highlighted the Government's ongoing initiatives to address longstanding transportation challenges faced by the public, whilst simultaneously working to advance the tourism sector through the expansion of the country's air transport system.
The President outlined a comprehensive expansion of the nation's aviation infrastructure. The flagship Velana International Airport will see its new terminal open before October 2025, while both Hanimaadhoo Airport and Addu City's Gan Airport are set to open their doors this year. Meemu Muli is scheduled for completion in April 2025.
Furthermore, new airport developments will commence in: Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo; Shaviyani Milandhoo, Komandoo, Bileiyfahi, and Funadhoo; Raa Fainu and Alifushi; Baa Thulhaadhoo; Alifu Alifu Mathiveri; Faafu Nilandhoo; Thaa Guraidhoo and Vilufushi; Gaafu Alifu Villingili; Gaafu Dhaalu Kaadedhdhoo; and Laamu Kadhdhoo. The existing airports in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi and Shaviyani Funadhoo will also undergo significant service expansions this year, as pledged in the Government's infrastructure development programme.
The President emphasised that expanding and streamlining maritime transport to provide convenient travel options for citizens remains a key Government policy. He revealed that RTL ferry services will begin operations across all atolls before year-end, with Raa Atoll receiving the service first in June, followed by Baa Atoll in July.
