Gov’t Holds Gender Equality Awareness Sessions in Shaviyani Atoll

The government has conducted awareness sessions on the concepts of gender equality in two islands of Shaviyani Atoll.
The sessions were conducted in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Program (IFAD), the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
The session in Kanditheemu, Shaviyani Atoll saw 14 participants while the session in Goidhoo was attended by nine 9 participants.
The awareness sessions highlighted the difference between class and gender, socialisation, the difference between equality and equity, empowerment and gender stereotyping.
In addition, intersectionality and the situation of women in Maldives were also featured in these sessions.
The Maldives Agribusiness Programme (MAP) is providing a variety of relevant training to the country’s agricultural industry, as part of its efforts to promote sustainable and modern agricultural techniques.
Ensuring gender equality and empowering women is a key policy of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Administration. In order to drive it home, the President has decided to appreciate and recognise institutions and individuals who provide opportunities for women and ensure their progress.
