A recent leaked video broadcast on a local TV channel and circulated on Youtube shows Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) presidential candidate, former president Mohamed Nasheed signaling protesters to break security lines, during a protest on Friday. The 2 minutes 42 seconds long video, broadcast on DhiTV and later circulated on video sharing platform Youtube, shows MDP protesters breaking the barricade near Salsa Royal on Orchid Magu and moving towards military personnel on the scene, who were blocking the road with shields.
While MDP protesters are seen kicking the shields and attempting to break through the blockade, the former president is seen standing next to a pick-up truck parked right next to the shields, facing the soldiers holding them.
Former president Nasheed, who is holding a MDP flag, is then seen signaling the supporters to break the military barricade and move forward. Obeying his orders, the supporters start to push the pick-up truck, which the soldiers slowly allow behind their barricade lines. The soldiers then renew their efforts to control the mob of supporters.
