Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that Maldivians are faced with the fear of obliteration of Islam from the Maldives, and to combat this fear, the government will provide Quran teachers to all schools across the country within 14 days.
Dr Jameel made this remark while speaking at an event held at the Carnival area on Sunday night to celebrate Progressive Party of Maldives’ (PPM) victory in the presidential election.
He said that PPM won the election because the prayers of the Maldivian people were granted by God, and that the government will always be thankful for this victory and not forget the wishes of the people.
“We hope to have Quran teachers in all schools across the country within 14 days. President Yameen has, in addition, decided to establish an Islamic University as well,” he said.
Dr Jameel noted some efforts that are already under way by the new government to improve the health sector.
He said that Hulhumale’ Hospital will be developed to solve the problem of overcrowding at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’, and that an announcement will be made soon to employ 58 Maldivian nurses.
He further promised to solve the difficulties presently faced in the procurement of medical supplies as soon as the budget can be obtained.
