Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the joint opposition coalition’s candidate vying for Presidency in the upcoming election, has pledged to ensure housing for all citizens during his tenure.
Solih made this pledge while speaking at the special 'Rayyithunge Dharubaaru' event hosted by privately run television station RaajjeTV on Tuesday night.
At the event, Solih said that a unity government led by the opposition coalition will pave way for citizens to live a convenient life during a time where housing has proven to be one of the biggest issues.
As such, Solih pledged to provide subsidies to families that are unable to pay rent due to insufficient income and to assemble a policy that paves way for convenient living for the citizens.
The opposition candidate stated that loans will be granted in order to make housing reachable, and that they will come in MVR 5,000 monthly fees with an interest of 6%.
At the event, Solih had also answered questions from citizens that participated in the event.
People in fields such as fishing, agriculture, business and education had participated in the event to ask questions regarding Solih’s policies and address their concerns.
While this is the second of its kind to be held, the first was held in 2013, prior to the election.
