Jumhooree Party (JP) has announced it will be expanding party activities to the atolls.
The government coalition party discussed increasing party activities at a council meeting on August 24. As such, the JP council members have decided to travel to the atolls and begin party activities.
At the meeting, JP members had also elected members to vacant positions in its disciplinary committee and appeals committee. The JP council also approved the establishment of 10 new committees proposed by members to further develop the party.
Furthermore, the opportunity was given for members to vie for the two seats in the JP council, which were left vacant after the resignation of Parliamentarians Mohamed Nazim and Abdulla Riyaz from JP. Senior party members who participated in the meeting include JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim, Deputy Leader and Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, and Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim.
Around 29 JP council members were also present at the meeting. Senior members Mohamed Nazim and Abdulla Riyaz resigned from JP to form a new party.
With their resignations, JP currently has three members in the Parliament of the Maldives.
