Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar have said that there should not be any limit in spending to protect the sovereignty and independence of the nation.
The minister made this statement during a visit to Huravee, the largest coast guard vessel of Maldivian coast guard. He visited the ship to coast guard to thank the officers for successfully rescuing a fishing boat of Sri Lanka and for rescuing the sailors on a Maldivian boat that caught fire 23 miles outside the EEZ of Maldives.
Thanking the navy officers who work on Huravee, the minister thanked them on behalf of President Yameen and Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam. “What you have done deserves gratitude” said the Minister.
Adam Shareef said that if the country does not have adequate resources to save the people when they are in danger, that means the country is not sovereign.
The government has taken many steps to increase the capability of Maldivian National Defence Force. Recently the coast guard purchased fast interceptor vessels which are the fastest vessels in the whole region. Also the government is working on bringing in airplanes for the airwing of MNDF.
