The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has said that a new stock of coins have been brought into the country today following shortages.
The authority said in an announcement that 1 Rufiyaa, 50 Laari and 25 Laari coins were brought in today.
MMA said that the coins have been deposited in the State treasury.
MMA last brought in new coins in May 2012.
Armed police and MNDF officers kept guard as the coin shipments were brought in.
The demand for coins increased with the introduction of GST and other taxes.
