Former President and the opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed has said his ‘arms are fractured’، during his remand hearing at the Criminal Court on Monday.
“See، my arms are fractured. I request to consult a doctor before the hearing. You can see clearly the state I am in،” former President Nasheed told the jury، reportedly، whilst in despair.
Upon the chief judge in the panel asking Nasheed to explain how the events proceeded، he explained that he was pushed to the ground by the Police officer prior to entering the court. The chief judge then questioned the Police officer.
After speaking with the Police officer، the chief judge concluded that، “court staffs and police officers have stated that Nasheed attempted not to enter into the court”.
However، President Nasheed denied the claims and said that ‘he showed no excuse to enter into the court’.
Though the former president Nasheed stated during the hearing that his arms were fractured، it has not been confirmed by any authorities.
Prior to entering the court، a dispute erupted between Nasheed and the Police. Several reports say Nasheed ‘intentionally fell to the ground’ and also ‘assaulted a Police officer’. However، other media reported that ‘Nasheed was pushed to the ground and was assaulted by the Police’.
