Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) have been entrusted with the development of Fainu Airport, a key infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the country's transportation network and economic growth.
MACL stated that the project aligns with President Mohamed Muizzu’s vision and is an important step in strengthening connectivity and supporting regional development. The agreement was signed by Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, CEO and Managing Director of MACL, and Ahmed Saudi, Managing Director of MTCC.
President Muizzu highlighted the significance of the airport, stating that it would serve as an "airport of hope" for Fainu residents and the surrounding constituency, playing a vital role in driving local economic progress.
While work on the Fainu Airport development is set to begin, construction of another airport is already underway in Alif Alif Atoll. Currently, the nearest operational airport in that region is in Raa Atoll.
