Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has described the ‘Maldives 2.0’ digital transformation effort as crucial to complimenting a long-term masterplan underway with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to digitise the healthcare system.
In an exclusive interview with PSM News, Minister Nazim stressed the importance of the government's initiative to digitise the entire country, specifically identifying the health sector as one of the first priority areas under this project.
According to the Minister, the swift implementation of this project will transform the healthcare system of the country, including access to patient and other health related records.
"This will also significantly reduce costs. People will be able to get services much quicker and build confidence in the healthcare services,” he explained.
Minister Nazim said the long-term digitisation master plan in collaboration with the WHO, is nearing completion with vaccination records already digitised.
Through the system parents and guardians of children born this year, will be able to track important information such as the date of vaccination and the date of next vaccination, adding that efforts are now underway to scrap the existing paper system and add the old data to the new system.
The 'Maldives 2.0' initiative is a cornerstone of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s strategic vision, designed to drive sweeping digital reforms across all sectors and institutions. Launched under the president's special initiative, the project seeks to unify state institutions in the pursuit of fast, secure, and transparent services, ushering the Maldives into a new digital era.
With a three-year timeline, the government aims to implement smart digital reforms and innovations that will streamline public services and transform institutional administration. The overarching goal is to establish a digitally connected future, integrating accessible technology across the islands while elevating service standards.
