Schools reopen for new academic year after long holidays

Schools have reopened for a new academic year on Sunday after the long holidays.
Schools closed for a one-month and one-day holiday on December 25th – marking the first long holiday in December since the beginning of the academic year was switched back to January.
Earlier figures released by the Ministry of Education show that more than 80,000 students are enrolled in schools nationwide this academic year. Among them, 4,790 are new first-grade students, with 3,042 enrolled in atoll schools and 1,748 enrolled in Male’ area schools.

A total of 1,530 students from atolls shifted to Male’ area schools for the new academic year.
Notably, the academic calendar by the Education Ministry shows that schools will only be open in Ramadan during the first week of the holy month.
The first term will conclude on July 17th, while the second term will begin on August 2nd.
The academic year will come to a conclusion on December 18th – with the new academic year set to begin on January 17, 2027.
