In addition to children under the care of single parents, NSPA extends financial assistance to children being cared for by non-parental guardians, as well as to these guardians themselves.
NSPA statistics indicate that 97 such guardians and 130 such children are currently receiving financial assistance, with four new guardian registrations reported last month.
Last month, NSPA allocated MVR 178,500 for these children and their guardians.
The government currently provides an allowance of MVR 2,000 to single mothers and fathers. This allowance increases proportionally with the number of children. Under the previous policy, single parents with more than three children received a maximum allowance of MVR 3,000. Now, up to 10 children each receive an allowance of MVR 1,000.
