Prices of goods and services in the Maldivian market fell in March compared to February this year.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of the price of goods and services released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), showed inflation was 0.69 percent lower in March compared to February. Excluding changes in tuna prices, the figure was down 0.78 percent.
According to the CPI report, the biggest decline in prices was in electricity prices. Electricity prices fell by 19.90 percent with the Ramadan discount facilitated by the government, according to the CPI report.
Other reductions in prices included:
Mobile communication services - 2.12 percent
Vegetables - 0.80 percent
Milk, dairy products and eggs - 0.42 percent
Motorcycles - 0.53 percent
Fruit and tuna prices were among the items that saw prices rise in March. While fruit prices rose 6.05 percent while tuna prices rose 0.95 percent. Clothing prices rose by 1.23 percent, according to the CPI report.
