President assures lasting solution to housing issues in Thulusdhoo

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the Government will find lasting solutions to the housing challenges faced by the community of K. Thulusdhoo. He made the announcement while addressing residents as part of his ongoing tour of Maaleatholhu.
Describing Thulusdhoo as a model for successful development and population consolidation, with a community that welcomes such progress, President Dr Muizzu stated that housing projects would be carried out on the reclaimed land in the island. He added that further population consolidation and development projects will be carried out in Thulusdhoo once the housing projects have been completed.
Several development projects were launched in Thulusdhoo in line with the President’s pledges and the community’s aspirations. These include the new building for K. Atoll Hospital, Fitness and Recreation Centre, the Police Station, and the new powerhouse. President Dr Muizzu also inaugurated the State Utility Skills Academy and the new water plant in Thulusdhoo. Agreements were also formalised for new premises for K. Atoll Education Centre, and the handover of island waste management responsibilities to WAMCO.
Highlighting the initiatives planned for the next year, the President stated that road construction in Thulusdhoo will begin in January next year. He added that work on the western harbour, a new BML branch, and a US dollar ATM is expected to commence later in the year. He further confirmed that budgetary allocations have been made to strengthen the island’s sports, education, and healthcare infrastructure.
With his visit to Thulusdhoo, President Dr Muizzu achieved the milestone of visiting all inhabited islands of the Maldives within just one year and eleven months. Reflecting on this accomplishment, he noted that over the past two years he has engaged with communities from 187 islands, paid a second visit to 64 islands, and held two rounds of discussions with 148 island councils. These engagements, he said, have enabled more effective on-site consultations, accelerated development progress, and delivered tangible results.
This milestone was commemorated with a celebratory cake-cutting ceremony during the Thulusdhoo community meeting.
