The ministry's director general Mohamed Saeed said the 241 teachers recruited from India had already come to the Maldives. Sixty-seven local graduate teachers had also been assigned to schools, he added. "The remaining expatriate teachers will also come to the Maldives before the beginning of the academic year," Saeed said. Statistics released by the education ministry say that 5,244 local teachers taught in Maldivian schools in 2012 whilst 2,580 expatriate teachers were in service.
