President-Elect Mohamed Ibrahim Solih will be travelling to Sri Lanka on Wednesday to accompany former President Mohamed Nasheed on his return to Maldives.
Solih's spokesperson Mariya Ahmed Didi stated during a press conference held on Tuesday that Solih will return to the Maldives in the company of the former president.
“President Solih departs tomorrow for Sri Lanka. He will return day after tomorrow, on November 1, with President Nasheed” said Mariya.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed was convicted to a period of 13 years under terrorism charges but the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, issued a temporary stay order on the conviction of former president Mohamed Nasheed, allowing Nasheed to spend his days without restriction in Maldives.
The apex court ordered state institutions to refrain from taking any action regarding Nasheed’s conviction until the court reaches a decision.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is currently working on preparations to welcome the self-exiled former president.
