Information Commissioner, Abdul Aziz Jamal Abubakur has said that Information Officers would be assigned to all the offices of the government by the end of the year.
It has been an year since an Information Commissioner’s office was established by the Parliament under the Information Law. A news conference was held today to update the media about the work done by them in the past year.
The Information Commissioner, Abdul Aziz Jamal Abubakur said that an Information officer must be in all institutes of the government and cooperation from the said institutes is required.
While the government holds a share in 1,286 companies, Commissioner said that Information Officers have been assigned in 523 of those companies.
“This is a small number. We are still working hard to establish officers, we need support from everyone.” The Information Commissioner said.
According to the law, Information Officers have to be a lower grade than the management level, the Commissioner said, and there is trouble assigning an Information Officer due to the small number of staff in most offices.
“Political Parties and NGOs are part of the government according to this law.” Jamal said.
