The Parliament of the Maldives has approved sweeping Cabinet changes proposed by President Mohamed Muizzu, following endorsement by the relevant parliamentary committee.
The approved proposals introduce a major reorganisation of government institutions, including the restructuring of ministerial mandates and the appointment of 14 ministers. The changes come after the resignation of 10 ministers, who stepped down to facilitate the administration’s reform agenda and enable adjustments to the structure and functioning of government.
Under the new framework, several ministries have been merged, others dissolved, and mandates revised to align with updated governance priorities. Officials say the reconstitution is intended to streamline operations and improve coordination across sectors.
Following parliamentary approval, 14 ministers—comprising both former Cabinet members and new appointees—were formally sworn into office.
The newly approved ministers are:
- Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises: Moosa Zameer- Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology: Ali Ihusaan- Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development: Ismail Shafeeu- Minister of Health, Family and Welfare: Geela Ali- Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Transport: Mohamed Saeed- Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments: Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed- Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation: Mohamed Ameen- Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness: Abdulla Rafiu- Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage: Heena Waleed- Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development: Abdulla Muththalib- Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy: Ali Shareef- Minister of Defence and National Service: Hassan Rasheed- Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources: Ahmed Shiyam- Minister of Foreign Affairs: Iruthisham Adam
The administration has framed the restructuring as part of a broader effort to modernise governance, enhance efficiency, and better align institutional responsibilities with national priorities.
