President Dr Muizzu to Embark on Key State Visit to Sri Lanka to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

At the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, the President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu, will undertake a four-day state visit to Sri Lanka from May 3 to May 6, 2026.
The high-profile visit underscores a mutual commitment to deepening the long-standing diplomatic and economic partnership between the two Indian Ocean neighbors. During the mission, President Muizzu is slated to hold official talks with President Dissanayaka, focusing on a wide range of bilateral issues and regional cooperation.
A central highlight of the visit will be a formal ceremony where the two heads of state will witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). these agreements are expected to span multiple sectors, further solidifying the framework for technical and economic exchange.
President Muizzu will be joined by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation, including several Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials.
This visit follows a milestone year for the two nations; in July 2025, President Dissanayaka visited the Maldives to commemorate the 60th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations. This upcoming return visit by President Muizzu signals a continued era of close cooperation and enduring friendship between the Maldives and its significant development partners.
