Following the altercation between an expatriate teacher and a student at Addu High School, the student has now been suspended.  
The incident reportedly occurred around noon on Wednesday. Videos circulating on social media show the male student scuffling with the teacher, repeatedly swinging his arm at him, while the teacher is seen reciprocating grabbing the student several times. Additional footage has also surfaced showing the same student harassing another foreign teacher.  
The videos have sparked widespread debate online, with many condemning the student’s actions and defending the teacher. Several commenters have called for disciplinary action against the student.

School sources confirmed that the student, currently in grade 12, has a history of disciplinary issues dating back to grade nine. They said he had been bullying and harassing the teacher as seen in the videos for the past two weeks.  
The student’s suspension will remain in place until he completes an ethics program.  
Meanwhile, the Education Ministry has suspended the teacher involved in the incident and announced that it is investigating the matter. Police are also conducting a separate investigation.
