Missing 12-year-old found two months pregnant
Haveeru learned from a reliable source that her pregnancy was confirmed when police took her to the hospital after she was found two days later. A health expert who wished to remain anonymous said she was severely dehydrated when taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) but her family took her home despite requests by the hospital to be admitted within 48 hours. "Her family took her home saying that they will bring her back later," the expert said. Haveeru could not confirm if the girl was hospitalised later or get details about her current condition. IGMH spokesperson said such cases are handled by Health Ministry's Gender Department. Haveeru has been unable to get a comment from the department. Police also decline to comment on the matter. The health expert said it is not known how the girl became pregnant or the child's father. The expert, however, stressed that the child was not given adequate care she needed because of the negligence of the authorities. "There is no one to take responsibility," the expert said. "They should be giving the child the needed care right now. What happened can be investigated afterwards."
