All party talks ended for today without any headway into the order of the agenda

Mediator of the talks Ahmed Mujthaba revealed that the delay in deciding an order for the agenda was due to the “sensitivities” surrounding the issues. Jumhoory Party representative and President’s Office Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza expressed hope that despite the failure to order the agenda today, the discussions would continue after the Parliament reconvenes tomorrow. “The general consensus is that the talks had not collapsed and would continue,” Abbas said. He further added that all members had agreed to work towards national stability. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary group leader and Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed “Ibu” Solih said that in addition to the failure to agree to the order of the agenda, the members are also yet to consent to early presidential polls. Solih further revealed that when President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik had attended the discussions today, he had informed that he was ready for an early election if the Parliament made that decision. He also said that the MDP was prepared to amend the constitution if required to hold early polls. President Waheed who had attended the meeting for about 10 minutes, said afterwards that he had urged the members to continue with the dialogue. “I told them I would extend my support to their efforts. I also intimated my desire for the dialogues to continue and find necessary solutions from within the parliament after it reconvenes tomorrow,” Waheed said following a question from Haveeru.
