President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has remarked that the employees of banks were clearly implicit in the largest misappropriations case in recent years.
Speaking in the opening ceremony of the port in Kudafari Island on Monday evening, President Yameen said that the misappropriation on MMPRC funds had occurred so easily as the banks had facilitated the transfer of funds, adding that somewhere in the process either bank procedures or employees had failed to follow their mandates. President Yameen added that this has been highlighted as a key factor in the audit report.
He added that the internal workings of the bank can only be known to the leader of the nation only after audits are carried out. President Yameen further said that if senior officials of the Government move towards action then things will move forwards.
President Yameen said that government processes had acted on their mandates and carried out the necessary checks. However, the misappropriation of MMPRC had gone undetected as the agency was under the direct administration of firstly the then Tourism Minister and later Vice President.
President Yameen assured that a Committee at the President’s Office is deliberating on the completed MMPRC audit report and will soon implement the agreed measures.
