The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dunya Maumoon has said that the Maldives and China together are ready to achieve many successes for our people. Speaking as the Chief Guest at a Reception held this evening to mark the Chinese New Year, Minister Dunya impressed on the solid foundation on which the friendship between China and Maldives has thrived over the last four decades and which has helped the Maldives and China to work on a partnership that has accelerated to unprecedented levels in the last year.
In her remarks Minister Dunya noted that “The Maldives and China subscribe to a deeply held set of principles. It is about respecting and recognising each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity; it is about non-interference in each other’s internal affairs; it is about peaceful co-existence; and most importantly, it is about cooperation for mutual benefit.” Minister Dunya also highlighted the visit of President Yameen to China in August last year, and the visit of President Xi to the Maldives the following month.
Minister Dunya also expressed sincere appreciation to China for the infrastructure projects implemented in the Maldives including the Foreign Ministry building, Sinamale’ flats and the National Museum building. She also expressed confidence that the bond and friendship between the two countries will be even more vividly symbolised and apparent with the completion of the China-Maldives friendship bridge which is a key project and vision of President Yameen.
The Reception organized by the Chinese Embassy in Maldives was attended by Ministers, members of the Parliament, Diplomatic Corp and senior officials from Government and Private Sectors.
