Dhiggaru by-elections voting kicks off

Voting has begun for the Dhiggaru constituency’s by-elections to elect MP for Dhiggaru seat. 
The voting begun at 8:00 a.m. today and will continue until 4:00 p.m.
The by-election ballot boxes have been placed in Male’ and the five islands of the constituency; Dhiggaru،  Maduhvari، Raiyymandoo، Veyvah and Muli.
A total of 2،555 people have registered to vote in the by-elections where 573 people have registered to place their votes in Male’ ballot box located in Iskandhar School; 823 people to vote to ballot box in Dhiggaru، 574 people to Muli ballot box، 303 people to Maduhvari ballot box، 170 people in Veyvashu ballot box and 112 people to Raiyymandoo ballot box.
Similar to other elections، the temporary results of each ballot box will be publicized in the islands where the ballot box is located. However، the temporary result of by-elections will be announced in Dhiggaru.
Four candidates are contesting for Parliament’s seat for Dhiggaru constituency; ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives’s candidate Ahmed Faris Maumoon، Maldivian Democratic Party’s candidate Ahmed Raziq، Independent candidate LGA Deputy Leader Moosa Naseer Ahmed and Independent candidate Shameem Ali.
The Parliament’s Dhiggaru seat became vacant after MP for Dhiggaru Constituency Ahmed Nazim was found guilty of graft and was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Supreme Court.
