President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has stated that all his education, training and experience has been in preparation for the presidency.
Speaking at a campaign event Baa Eydhafushi, President Waheed said that he had the same realization on the 7th of February last year, when he took office as the President.
“I believe that all my education for the past 60 or so years has been for this moment. To serve the Maldives in its future. I had the same feeling on February 7th last year, I felt that all my education and experience had been for that moment.”
He said that an individual has to make full use of his education and experience, and that acting on such knowledge alone is the way to be show his gratitude for the country.
Maldives still needs a great deal of improvement on a number of fronts, he said, reforms that the government cannot bring alone.
“I am trying to use my knowledge to bring the country to a peaceful bay. There are a lot of things to be amended in this country. Some of these things are very difficult and the government alone cannot make these amendments,” President Waheed said.
He said that a unified effort is needed to put the country on the right course.
The President and his Forward with the Nation coalition campaign team travelled to a numbered islands in Baa atoll this weekend.
