Former President Mohamed Nasheed has announced that he will take a hiatus from politics for the next few years.
In a statement issued by his office, Nasheed said that the most significant endeavor of his political career was to establish a multi-party system of governance.
"The purpose of the statement I am writing today is to announce that I will be stepping away from political activities for the next few years," Nasheed said.
In the statement, Nasheed expressed gratitude to all those who provided assistance during his political career.
