Former High Court judge Shuaib passes away

Former High Court judge Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya has passed away today, at the age of 55.
He is reported to have passed away while seeking treatment for cancer. According to local reports, he last sought treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital.
Shuaib, who is originally from Gdh. Hoandedhhoo, was appointed to the High Court on 26th March 2011. He served 11 years there before retiring on 22nd November 2022.
Shuaib earned his law degree from Qatar University in 1997. Later, he completed his Masters of Comparative Law at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
His contributions to Maldives' legal sector include:
- Legal officer (Justice Ministry)
- Special Judge (Justice Ministry)
- Judge (Family Court)
- Chief Judge (Civil Court)
- Chief Judge (Juvenile Court)
He also served as the president of the Judges' Association.
Shuaib was also a teacher. He taught at Majeeduya School and worked as a lecturer in the Faculty of Islamic Studies and the Faculty of Sharia and Law as well.
