2025 Presidential Address: President announces Floating Solar project will commence in 2027

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the planned Floating Solar project will commence in 2027, with the Government to issue Special Economic Zone Development permits to foreign investors this year.
The President made these remarks during his Presidential Address at the first sitting of the first session of the People's Majlis for 2025.
The Floating Solar project, he said, seeks to reduce the nation’s dependency on non-renewable sources of energy and to add 100 megawatts of solar energy to the national power grid.
In his address, the President stated that in the past year, 15 megawatts of renewable energy was added into the national power grid. This, he said, was in line with the Administration’s pledge to generate 33 percent of the country’s energy needs from renewable sources. The President further noted that the Administration had also launched the “Magey Solar” initiative to increase citizen participation in the renewable energy sector, enabling citizens to benefit from cleaner energy generation.
