Maldives Police establishes call centre to combat scams

A dedicated call centre has been established to report scams to the Maldives Police Service.
Earlier in June last year, the police established an Anti-Scam Centre under its strategic plan due to the rising number of scam cases in the Maldives.
The Police Monday said that the Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau had decided that the Anti-Scam Centre will centralise all necessary actions against scam cases and communicating with other agencies. Once a report is received by the call centre established under the Anti-Scam Centre, the centre will coordinate with financial institutions to take the necessary actions and to obtain information.
Cases can be reported to the Anti-Scam Centre via the national emergency number 911, Anti-Scam Hotline 125 (Extension 2020) and via email to [email protected]. Cases can also be reported to centres established in Male’ and the atolls.
Police have also asked the public to report scams cases to the Anti-Scam Centre as soon as possible to prevent scams.
