Land reclamation works for Hulhumalé Phase III are on track to be completed by 20 January, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced.
The Minister shared the update during a press conference at the President’s Office on Sunday, briefing media on the Ministry’s ongoing projects.
Minister Dr Muththalib emphasised that housing development remains a core government priority, with long-term planning focused on securing comfortable living spaces for future generations. He noted a shift in approach, prioritising three-bedroom units over smaller configurations to better accommodate family needs.
On Hulhumalé Phase III specifically, the Minister reported rapid progress: of the planned 63 hectares, 47 hectares have already been reclaimed. The remaining works are expected to conclude by 20 January, paving the way for the formal handover process.
The government has already allocated land plots in Phase III through the third phase of the Binveriya Scheme, distributing a total of 698 plots across seven sizes:
- 181 plots of 1,650 square feet
- 242 plots of 2,050 square feet
- 132 plots of 2,450 square feet
- 62 plots of 2,850 square feet
- 41 plots of 3,250 square feet
- 16 plots of 3,650 square feet
- 24 plots of 4,000 square feet
The timely completion of reclamation works will enable the next stages of housing and infrastructure development in the expanded area.
