Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) released new MVR 20 notes on Thursday with MMA’s Governor Ali Hashim’s signature.
This is the first time notes have been released with Ali Hashim’s signature since he accepted the position of governor on September 8, 2019.
These notes were brought to Maldives in October 13 2021 after they were printed. However they were released into circulation today.
MMA said the new MVR 20 notes were because its stock has decreased. They estimate the notes brought in 2015 will run out by the end of this month.
"There should always be enough notes as needed for the economy. The stock brought in in 2015 to introduce 'Ran Dhiha Faheh' (Golden Ten Five) in 2015 will run out by the end of this month. Therefore a new stock was brought in," MMA said.
The date on the new notes is July 1, 2020 (10 Zulgaida 1441).
