Police media official stated that Dr. Jameel is charged with fueling hatred amongst the public and disrupting the religious unity of the nation. Dr. Jameel had been summoned by the police on four separate occasions and detained three times over the course of a single week. He had been released on every occasion following a criminal court order. Police are also currently investigating a similar case involving DQP council member Ahmed Ibrahim “Sandhaanu Ahammaidhy” Didi who had also been summoned and detained by police on various occasions. Parliamentary group leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Mulak MP Abdulla Yamin was also summoned to the police this morning.
