High Court asked to hold off ex-President Nasheed's appeal case
The procedural points taken up by Nasheed’s legal team at the Hulhumale Magistrate Court include the question whether the court can hold a trial in Male, the legitimacy of the court and the arrest warrant issued against Nasheed. The Court had dismissed two of the three procedural points raised by the defence including the legitimacy of the Hulhumale Court and whether the court can hold a trial in Male. Nasheed’s legal team had raised the same procedural points at the High Court. The ex-President’s trial has been held off as the Supreme Court is currently probing the legitimacy of Hulhumale Court which is included in the appeal case at the High Court. A hearing of the appeal filed by Nasheed had been tabled for today, which according to the High Court had been cancelled. High Court had earlier ordered the temporary halt of former President Nasheed's trial on the over Judge Abdulla’s arrest. Following the High Court order Hulhumale Magistrate Court had suspended all proceedings. However, Supreme Court had given the green light for the lower court to continue proceedings except Nasheed’s trial.
