More than one million passengers have arrived in the Maldives through Velana International Airport (VIA) so far this year, accounting for 97.3 per cent of all visitor arrivals to the country.
According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the Maldives has welcomed 1,028,549 visitors so far this year, with the overwhelming majority entering through VIA.
Tourism Ministry figures show that 1,000,134 travellers arrived through Velana International Airport during the period.
Other international airports recorded significantly lower arrival numbers. Gan International Airport welcomed 4,057 visitors, followed by Maafaru International Airport with 3,525 arrivals, Hanimaadhoo International Airport with 2,304 arrivals, Villa International Airport in Maamigili with 1,858 arrivals and Dhaalu Airport with 825 arrivals.
The Maldives is currently receiving an average of 5,980 tourists per day.
China remains the country's largest tourism source market, contributing 160,811 visitors so far this year.
Russia ranked second with 143,161 visitors, followed by the United Kingdom with 84,545 arrivals, Italy with 72,561 arrivals and Germany with 65,504 arrivals.
Tourism Ministry statistics also show that resorts continue to dominate the accommodation sector.
A total of 721,2060 visitors stayed at resorts, while 237,168 tourists chose guesthouses.
Hotels accommodated 24,816 visitors, while 20,922 tourists stayed aboard safari vessels and liveaboards.
The tourism sector remains one of the main drivers of the Maldivian economy, with visitor arrivals continuing to grow across key international markets.
