The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has awarded the commercial bank operating license to Maldives Premier Bank Private Limited.
This bank was a given a ‘tier one’ bank establishment permit by MMA in May 2025. Following this, the commercial banking business license was awarded after fulfilling the requirements and making modifications to the bank’s name and ownership to fit the framework given by MMA.
MMA has stated that awarding this license to Maldives Premier Bank Private Limited is an important step in strengthening the Maldives’ fiscal sector, improving competitiveness in banking, and facilitating the provision of financial services for customers.
MMA added that, the authority aims to establish a competitive financial system for all by distributing licenses under strict rules and regulations with adequate supervision.
