Individuals have reported receiving messages related to a scam termed "BML Alert," falsely claiming that their accounts are restricted due to a transaction. The message urges recipients to click on a provided link to reactivate their accounts.
The Bank of Maldives, via a series of tweets, emphasized that it does not send messages soliciting access to any external links. The bank clarified that the circulated message is not authentic and urged the public to exercise caution in the face of such misleading communications.
This incident adds to a history of fraudulent calls and messages associated with the falsification of the bank's identity, often linked to various money laundering schemes. The bank highlighted that, as of December of the previous year, the bank had recorded a total of 1,657 cases related to scams in a regulatory filing.
