Vice President joins MDP campaign in Laamu atoll

Vice President Faisal Naseem has joined main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary campaign in Laamu atoll.
Vice President Faisal, a member of government coalition partner Jumhooree Party (JP), met MDP’s Gan candidate and former journalist Mohamed Wisam on Friday evening.
He was also seen at the MDP campaigns in Fonadhoo, Maavah, and Isdhoo.
He was given a warm welcome by Laamu atoll residents upon his arrival.
While JP candidate Adam Asif is also running for a constituency in the atoll, it is not confirmed whether the Vice President joined his campaign.
Vice President Faisal has not been seen at any recent JP event.
JP leader Qasim Ibrahim has announced that his party will be backing candidates of the opposition coalition. However, JP President and Tourism Minister Ali Waheed said this decision was made without any input from the party council.
Transport Minister and Qasim’s wife Aishath Nahula has recently said she refuses to support any candidate backed by jailed former president and opposition leader Abdulla Yameen.
