Maldives Supreme Court ends hearings on Border Control case
Malaysia’s Nexbis Limited assigned with the installation of a BCS in the Maldives had appealed the High Court's ruling in favor of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) that the Immigration Department must comply with the order by the ACC to halt the project, at the Supreme Court. The seven Judge bench of the Supreme Court had heard the statements of ACC and Nexbis on Wednesday before concluding the hearings of the case on the same day. The hearings on the case were ended by the highest court of the Maldives after the Parliament had decided to annul the contract with Nexbis. The Supreme Court had earlier annulled the two temporary orders issued by the High Court to halt the BCS project. The Court had also previously invalidated a temporary order issued by the High Court on the pretext that the order was issued by an invalid bench of Judges. Government had earlier stated that it had decided to comply with the Parliament’s decision to terminate the contract with Nexbis.
