Use of megaphone prohibited after 11pm; protests will be broken off after 12am

Maldives Police Service has announced they will be breaking off any protests prolonging 00:00hrs while usage of megaphones during rallies are allowed until 23:00hrs.
According to Maldives Police Service the continued protests in Male’ by MDP supporters over the arrest and jailing of MDP leader and former President Mohamed Nasheed، has led to a civil unrest with the heavy suffering on public. As per Maldives Police Service a lot of business entities as well as citizens have raised complains of the loud and continued protests that has caused adversity on businesses while it had also been a key factor contributing to public fear.
Recently MDP supporters have been initiating protests، which at first were limited to weekends mostly however it has since then become frequent، taking place almost every night. This has led to business affecting as well road traffic blockades، noise eruption leading to residence living in vicinity being affected by the loud noise. With this recent protests taking place almost every night has led to a state of civil unrest in capital city.
Police statement had highlighted all of the above mentioned factors، which they had released today.
Furthermore Police had noted that they will be implementing 4 precautionary rules under power bestowed on them by Article 41، section “kaafu” of Peaceful Protest Act in order to guarantee safety and protection of citizens which is stated in Article 33، section “haa”، clause 6 of the same Act who stand to lose their basic privileges due to such protests.
The newly implemented rules by MPS will allow them to prohibit continual of protests from individuals on no-protest zones، restricting the usage of megaphones after 23:00hrs and order protest organizers to dismiss protests after 00:00hrs، following the said time Police will be breaking off protests proceeding.
