Former President Mohamed Nasheed, who has been serving a 13-year prison sentence after being convicted of terrorism, has arrived in UK today for his medical treatment. The former President was welcomed at the Heathrow Airport by the former First Lady, Laila Ali and, the international lawyers of President Nasheed and the MDP Chairperson, Ali Waheed. The former President met with his family and supporters in Sri Lanka in the two days he was in Colombo before arriving in UK today. President Nasheed met with foreign diplomats in Sri Lanka on his stay and discussed the state of Maldivian politics. The government gave President Nasheed 30 days for his travel to UK for his spine surgery. President Nasheed and on behalf of his family, Dr. Ibrahim Naashid, has signed all the relevant legal documents that needs to be signed when a person serving a sentence is allowed abroad.
