Minor accused of attacking off-duty cop in Meedhoo; family alleges boy was victim

The police said on Saturday that they are investigating an incident two nights back in R. Meedhoo, when an off-duty police officer was attacked while attempting to stop a group of minors from creating a public disturbance.
The incident took place in Meedhoo on Thursday night.
In a press statement on Saturday morning, police said that an off-duty officer approached a group of minors who were shouting and creating a public disturbance on the street, and advised them to stop.
“…they said they would not stop, argued with him, and refused to share their information,” said the police.
The police said that they created a disturbance and one of them attacked the officer when he asked them to present themselves to the police station.
However, the family claims that it was the police officer who attacked the minor.
“This case is under investigation by the police. The police are also investigating the allegation by the family that the police officer attacked the minor,” he said.
The Police Professional Standards Command is also conducting a review of the use of force by the officer in controlling the minor who perpetrated the attack.

The officer then gets up and tackles him to the group, and pins his hands behind his back. He is then seen calling bystanders for help.
The footage also captured three people sitting outside a takeaway coffee shop who witnessed the incident.
