Russia has said that they are aware of the identity of the person handling the account named 'Hassan Kurusee' on social media platform X.
Russian Ambassador to the Maldives Levan S. Dzhagaryan said in a post on social media: "We clearly know who is the mastermind of this anonymous publication and persistently request to refrain from undermining the current constructive dialogue between Russia and US. We also call not to damage the traditionally friendly #RussiaMaldives relationship".
The ambassador claimed that a previously high-ranking Maldivian politician, currently in Europe, is behind the posts on the Kurusee account alleging that a computer chip shipment was transferred via Velana International Airport to Russia.

Russia has denied the allegations, and asserted that it is false news being spread to damage the relations between Russia and the Maldives and US.
Maldives Police has also previously conducted investigations aiming to uncover the person or persons behind the Kurusee account. This was conducted in response to a request from former President Mohamed Nasheed appealing for Police to uncover the identity of persons behind the account. Nasheed made the request as there was public speculation that it was Nasheed who was behind this account.
Police did not reveal any updates of the investigation later, and it is unclear whether they discovered the identity of those behind the account.
