MP Yasir rescinds his support for Pres Solih, announces support for Nasheed

North Kulhudhufushi MP Yasir Abdul Latheef announced on Friday that he is rescinding his support for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and that he will be backing Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed in the upcoming Maldives Democratic Party’s (MDP) primary election.
Yasir has stayed behind Solih so far during MDP’s internal conflict. However, after citing this administration’s slow progress in the planned development projects for his constituency, Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhufushi, Yasir officially withdrew his support for the incumbent president.
In the tweet he made endorsing Nasheed, he said he had supported Solih on all matters throughout the past four years. Despite this, the development projects in Kulhudhufushi have been slow throughout the administration.
Kulhudhufushi Mayor Athif Ahmed has also announced he will be backing Nasheed during MDP’s primary election.
South Kulhudhufushi MP Jamsheed Mohamed has not been seen at any of the campaign events yet.
A number of projects were budgeted for the development of Kulhudufushi. Even though some of these projects have been handed over, no progress is being made. These include several projects related to the development of the Kulhudufushi airport.
