The Ministry of Transport has identified two islands where seaplane services are needed.
On Monday, September 19, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has briefed the Parliament’s Committee on National Development and Heritage. The Transport Ministry briefed the parliamentary committee that the Ministry is working to expand seaplane services to the residential islands of Maldives in accordance with the National Special Plan.
The Ministry has identified two islands, Meemu Atoll Muli and Haa Dhaal Atoll Makunudhoo, which are most in need of seaplane services. The government has also identified the areas where the terminal and floating platforms will be built, as well as the auxiliary services.
The government is undertaking various efforts to connect the islands in accordance with the National Special Plan. The Raajje Transport Link (RTL) – which has begun the services in some atolls – is an initiative of the government to connect the islands through a single network by sea.
The government is currently outlining a plan to provide seaplane services to the local islands. The world’s largest seaplane network is provided in Maldives. However, the service has so far connected the airport and tourist resorts in the country.
