Tree Top Hospital has concluded its second multi-specialty health camp of the year, held in Gan, Laamu Atoll.
The hospital said the programme was conducted as part of its efforts to improve accessibility to top specialist doctors across the Maldives, so that people do not need to travel long distances for treatment.
The camp, conducted in collaboration with Gan Regional Hospital, Fan Council and the island’s Women’s Development Committee, was well received by the public. Held through June 19 to 20, a total of 492 patients were able to consult with specialist doctors and receive treatment.
Medical services offered included consultations related to heart diseases, diabetes and hormonal disorders, ENT (ear, nose, throat), general surgery, orthopaedics, pulmonary diseases as well as urology. Health screenings and awareness education were also provided as part of the camp.
Additional activities included health awareness sessions held for school students, and a training session aimed at improving nurses’ professional skills.
This was the 18th such medical camp by Tree Top Hospital. Similar camps were held previously in Meemu, Dhaalu, Thaa, Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Haa Alifu, Laamu, and Shaviyani atolls. Treetop Hospital said it aims to improve access to healthcare in the atolls, strengthen the health system and promote a healthier society in the Maldives.
