Practical Work Begins on Dhuvaafaru Harbour Expansion; MTCC Awarded Contract for Third Phase of Road Development

The practical work to expand the R. Dhuvaafaru harbour commenced today, and the contract for the third phase of road development on the island was officially awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The ceremonies for these events were held during the visit of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the First Lady to Dhuvaafaru to mark Fishermen’s Day.
The practical work for the harbour expansion was inaugurated by the Minister of Construction and Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib.
Furthermore, the agreement for the third phase of Dhuvaafaru road development was also signed today. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Infrastructure by Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and on behalf of MTCC by the company’s Managing Director, DCP (Rtd) Ahmed Saudhee.
Under this major road development project, a total of 75 roads spanning 16.65 kilometers are scheduled to be developed. These works include establishing a drainage system, laying service lines, installing a natural water runoff system, constructing pavements, and establishing a carriageway. Street lighting installation will also be carried out.
These projects were awarded to MTCC for MVR 312.66 million. The stipulated duration for the completion of these works is 810 days.
Dhuvaafaru, which has a population of 5,047 people, is already an island with many modern standard roads.
